I still go to ubuntuguide.org to find information I can't find 
elsewhere.  I'd have thought the documentation team would have done the 
same.

It's still up. Take another look.

BTW, I gather you don't follow ubuntuforums.org?  Or maybe you just 
missed it?

Open Source software is notorious for poor documentation.  And much of 
the best documentation I've ever come across over the years came from 
"unofficial sources".    I had absolutely no problems with 
ubuntuguide.org.  I did 95% of what was suggested there and had no 
problems whatsoever as a result.

In fact, I've yet to come across howtos for any Linux distro over the 
past 8 years.  You would be well served to copy as much as humanly 
possible, right down to the style.
