One more bit of advice...go ahead and use the Ubuntu OpenOffice.org version:
The "Official "version comes in one flavor...(OO.org 2) and that is RPM.
to use it you will have to convert it to deb AND remove some
nonapplicable files.
You don't want 1.1.5 as Open Document is only minimally supported.
If you DO download the "official" archive READ the SETUP Guide FIRST.
It's a seperate Download and is not included in the Archive. When
expanding the archive do it from the command line. Trying to extract it
with a gui is going to probably put some things in the wrong directory.
I KNOW it does on Fedora and SuSE. ( I've tried ALL kinds of
permutations of installing this, I'm a community distributor ..I make
cds of OpenOffice.org for distribution.)
The "Official" installation set CAN be bought on cd from various
distributors...maybe there is one in your local. I plan on adding an
already configured for deb/ubuntu directory on my install disk...but I
do not ship Outside of US and Mexico ..it will be another couple of
weeks before I have tested it on enough win and linux machines to be
sure of quality anyway. I mainly distribute it just locally here on the
border. (schools libraries etc.).
