In theory it'd be much faster than hard disk but there are some
studies about the life of a constantly used flash disk. My
understanding is that you can plan on a flash disk dying _much_ faster
than a hard drive (which are only supposed to last for about 3 years
anyways :)
But that's not to say that this sort of thing isn't done. There are
actually ram hard drives out in the wild that are supposed to be just
blazing fast. You could just install a new ram chip and run swap on a
ramdisk which would be cheaper, faster, and longer lived.
