There are a few video editing applications that are available in Linux.
I have two installed under warty:

Kino --- sort of like iMovie
Cinelerra ---- sort of like Final Cut Pro / AVID / Premiere.

It should be noted that Kino is in the Universe repository and seems to
work pretty well "out of the box" on my system.

Cinelerra is another matter. I've heard that it is a real pain to
compile from source, so I used the packages from a non-unbuntu
repository.

Not reccomended that anybody do this, from what I have read. I only did
this fully knowing that it might break my Ubuntu. I used pinning with
apt-get in an attempt to keep the damage to a minimum. So far so good...
but I keep waiting for something to break.

I am having a few issues with it, but I suspect that is more a matter of
me learning the app than any inherent problems in Cinelerra.

A few links for the applications:

Kino: http://kino.schirmacher.de/
Cinelerra: http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3

You should really do a search on the Ubuntu site for pinning and mixing
repositories if you want to attempt this. Lots of pitfalls out there,
but it seems more than possible if you are careful.

I can post a more detailed description of how I installed cinelerra. I
am hesitant, because I haven't had the time to test the install to see
if it really works yet.
