On the topic of security

I am a newbie to Ubuntu and Linux. Just how secure is Ubuntu (hoary) 
'out-of-the-box'? What should be done, if anything, to make it as secure 
as possible? What does everyone here do for security? Any and all info is 
appreciated.

I really want to make the switch to linux full time, but i need to learn a 
lot. And right now i have a few graphic design jobs going on, so learning 
to make the switch is a slow process. However, this list has proved very 
helpful and the people here are awesome! Everyone seems willing to help 
out, even for us newbies. Thanks to all.

And thanks in advance for any info on the above.
