Getting degree sign in Ubuntu

Right-click on the panel (the bar on the bottom of your Desktop, where 
the Applications and Computer menu is visible). Choose :Add to Panel". 
Select "Character Palette" (the 6. item from top down). Click "Add". 
Now, you can see some special characters in the Panel. Click on the 
little triangle and choose the character map which includes a Degeree 
sign (°). Or right click on the "character map panel", choose 
preferences and make your custom panel with the "Add" button.
(For your custom panel, copy/paste the degree sign from a exsisting 
palette -> hint: "edit" Button)
