Ubuntu's performance : how to speed up ?

Yes yes boys, I was just kidding aobut SCSI ;o)
I worked very briefly (3weeks !) for Bull, who builds IBM servers.
I build a small 42U server, just one node (PL820 IIRC), fully loaded
with disk arrays, a few dozen 15K SCSI drives then....yes, it sounded
like jet plane taking off as you say, and the heat generated was like
stanging next to said plane's turbine !! ;o)
Then there is the price of course.

I will just get an IDE "Barracuda" one. I don't need much storage space
(my home partition is 25GB big, and only 50% used...), so I will go for
the smallest/cheapest in the range.
