Option buttons are not appearing on the login screen

Hi,

Here is an interesting situation.
A few weeks ago i installed xfce 4.2. The installation went fine but for a 
few days i couldn't log in into xfce because in the login screen the option 
buttons, at the bottom of the page, were not showing up. I tried to figure 
out what the problem was by writing to various forums but received no usable 
information. Then in my frustration by mere chance i clicked on the New 
Login in the Application-system tools menu; and then the login screen 
appeared again with all the option available. Then I just clicked the 
Sessions button and i could log in into xfce without probleb. Ever since, 
when i use xfce i go through the same procedure. I can live with this, but i 
am just wandering what could be the reason that the login screen at startup 
doesn't show the option buttons?
