problem: hoary, after update no gdm login ..

Exactly the same symptomps here :-/ I just re-installed Hoary to get
back to business. Before re-installing I tried failsafe terminal, but
there seemed to be something wrong with it too. It was vertically cut in
two halves, which were very small and had changed places so that the
right half was in the left bottom corner and the left half was in the
right bottom corner. There was an empty space between the halves. Well,
without help I couldn't have done much in the terminal anyway. I did
apt-get update and apt-get upgrade, but maybe I should have done apt-get
downgrade :-)
