Seg fault on gnome volume control

I was playing around with the devices on my gnome volume control and 
suddenly it disappeared.

I have tried rebooting and I can move the slider up and down but when I 
right click and go to Open Volume Control nothing comes up.

Looking at dmesg I get the following:

gnome-volume-co[9033]: segfault at 0000000000000019 rip 0000002a96863e11 
rsp 0000007fbffff3c0 error 4

anyone able to offer any tips?
