HELP: warty & hoary does not install on Dell precision 370

Hi,

I just got a new Dell-precision 370 workstation to
replace my current machine and tried to install
warty or hoary but failed.

I used first a standard warty-install-cd
and afterwards one of the latest hoary-iso-images.

The machine boots from the cd, asks for
the language and keyboard settings but always
stops douring the CD-HW detection: Can not
detect any CD-ROM.

Does anybody have simular problems? 

I checked the bios and it says, that the
machine has a PATA-0 drive. I know SATA
but PATA? The drive is a:

JLMS DVD-ROM XJ-HD166

Any help or hint would be create
