Synaptic and libgnome2-perl

In the synaptic console, while installing packages the first few lines
of output are a warning about the missing package "libgnome2-perl". I
went ahead and installed this package and its associated deps (a few
other perl mods) and the warning message went away.

Should libgnome2-perl (and it deps) be installed by default since it
seems to be used by synaptic in some way?

Can anyone else confirm seeing this warning message?
