I agree one-hundred percent with you, sir. I'll do all in my power to
see if ndiswrapper on the next CD as Ndiswrapper is most likely the
most commonly used driver in linux-wireless.

Now, with that, I also use wireless. I use linux-wlan-ng and
ndiswrapper conjunctively for my Netgear MA111 v1 802.11b USB adapter.
The way I can try to help you out is to suggest to:

a) get on the local AP's computer and download ndiswrapper-1.0 and
somehow get it to the other computer. Be it floppy, cd, zip drive.
compile it from source. Just take the file, move it to your home
directory, tar -zxvf it, and then 'make' and 'sudo make install' it.

or

b) do the download from ANOTHER computer besides the AP, and follow
same steps after the .tar.gz is on Ubuntu.
