Menu system : how to re-install ?

Following my mishap with the Wart backport, which destroyed my menu
system, how can I re-install it, without re-installing Warty entirely ?

"update-menus", doesn't work, "killall gnome-panel", neither, logging
out/in, neither, removing the menu bar and putting it back, neither,
rebooting doesn't help either.

If I try re-creating all the entries that got deleted, they won't appear
in the menu ! :o(

Is there a package (in Synaptic ie), that is responsible for installing
the menu system in Warty, that I could try re-installing ??
