No. I did wonder about doing the same thing as I was not able to
maximise/demaximise a window horizontally or vertically in Gnome - a
feature I typically use when I want to look at certain type of output
in a terminal while still being able to look at another window
content. Haven't got around to check if this is going to be included
in Gnome 2.10, or if it is up for being done any time soon - on this
list I see quite a few comments where configurability is considered
bad, along the lines of «If it [the feature in question] is not in
Windows, why would we need it?», or «Use KDE if you want to configure
things». (More ranting, but now on the positive side:) But, luckily,
there are certain areas where the typical Gnome behaviour beats
Windows behaviour hands down, and one of them is in resizability,
e.g. of pop-up dialogs, or the terminal itself. And hopefully, the
Gnome developers are not following the above line of thinking, they
just have other priorities than mine.

This FVWM FAQ entry looks helpful:

     http://www.fvwm.org/documentation/faq/#2.8

Note: The Ubuntu fvwm2 package is called "fvwm" - without the "2".

Not anymore than using a computer on a daily basis.
