Hoping some fellows can guide me here.
Now that my Warty is working about fine, I can leave it alone and start
actually using it for more productive work...
I would like to build a development board to play with 8 bit
microcontrollers.
My first choice was a high-end Intel 8051 derivative, either a 80C552 or
80C537.
I looked at gcc's man page, and the packages in Synpatic, and overall,
it seems that there is no tools whatsoever available for the 8051
family.
It seems that most tool are either for PIC's or AVR's.
I hate PIC's, so I am left with AVR's.
I have not used 8 bit uC for 4+ years now, have the Atmel AVR's replaced
the good old Intel 8051 on the market now ? Intle used to have 80% of
the market with 8051, is that changing in favour of Atmel these days ??
I don't mind using AVR's, as long as I can find a decent development
board somewhere in my magazines, but I found an article for a great
board based on the 80C537, so if someone knows about Linux tools for the
8051 family of uC's, could you please help me out ??
Regards,
Vince
