the only prob about kde and gnome on the same disk is as you say, for a
new user, which  one do they choose? What would be the default?

I used to be a kde only person and couldnt stand gnome. But since
Ubunutu i realise Gnome has grown lots and no i way prefer it over KDE.
And in the future its updates will rival kde in other areas. I think
gnome is great, kde is bloated and big. Gnome is clear, user friendly
and stable. Sure it may not have all the custmoisation of kde it yet
but at end of the day it works. Its simple. How many people in
bussiness will be tweaking their desktop? they wont they will simply
click on the menu and run a prog. Give it a lil more while GNOME will
improve more but i think its great so far, and yes i now prefer it over
kde in every way and im looking forward to future releases.
