I don't know, but if you made the subject something like "Ensoniq 5880
AudioPCI not working in Hoary", it definitely would be better.

To answer your question: It should work out-of-the-box in Hoary!

What do you experience exactly?  I'm pretty sure that you sound device
is supported by ALSA found in the stuck Hoary kernel.

The module name is "snd-ens1371".  Check if it's loaded by running "grep
snd-ens1371 /proc/modules".  Also, check the volume.  ALSA by default
mute all sounds.  Use the "Volume Control" or from a terminal
"alsamixer".

If all that didn't help, post the output of:
        cat /proc/asound/cards /proc/asound/devices /proc/asound/pcm
