What is the output of 'X -version' ? This determines if youre using
xfree86 or ...

I've seen loads of questions regarding this on google, and I've been
struggling the last few days getting 3D hardware acceleration working in
xorg.

But no matter how hard I tried, there was no way I could figure it out.

I have kernel : 2.6.10-5-686, and tried several fglrx-6-8...... drivers.

I really wanted to use the xorg, because of the issues with xfree86, but
I must admit that xfree86 just works out of the box for me.

3D works great on my stinkpad T42P. So if it's not an issue, for you,
which one you use, then just use xfree86 and get on with more
interesting matters :)

I used the ATI-installer and ran sudo /usr/X11R6/bin/fglrxconfig
afterwards.

I get this output from the fgl_glxgears and glxgears:

max at max-laptop:/etc/X11$ fgl_glxgears
1271 frames in 5.0 seconds = 254.200 FPS
1349 frames in 5.0 seconds = 269.800 FPS
1342 frames in 5.0 seconds = 268.400 FPS
1340 frames in 5.0 seconds = 268.000 FPS

max at max-laptop:/etc/X11$ glxgears
6089 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1217.800 FPS
6647 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1329.400 FPS
6648 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1329.600 FPS
6647 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1329.400 FPS

Sincerely
Max Andersen
