I had the same thought a while ago.
I'm a book person so I started with "Teach Yourself Python in 24 Hours".
Not very realistic title, but I don't recommend this book because the
author loves calendars and bores the snot out of you. I then picked up
"Python Programming for the absolute beginner", which turned out to be
a good choice. The examples focus and exercises focus on games :). I
also purchased "Learning Python" from O'Reilly who always seem to have
good books.

Of course, there is a lot of resources on line on this subject and you
don't really need a book at all. I just find is a better experience
reading from print.
