Absolutely and without doubt. As a UK resident, I am appalled at how the
internet is still far too closely governed by the laws of just one
country. The internet was made commercial and public a long time ago now
and has seen many developments above and beyond (way beyond) what the
Americans (well, technically the US gov.. since 'America' would include
countries like Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Canada, etc....) built with
ARPAnet.

Even that aside, I remember there being a /. article once that the
algorithm used in libdvdcss can actually be put through a mathematical
formula to produce a primary number. So, under the laws of the DMCA,
this primary number is actually illegal since it can be directly used to
construct said 'encryption circumvention device'.
Which is just so very wrong IMHO.

And a thrid thing, with the DMCA laws and the hard-hitting RIAA and MPAA
are doing now with trying to close down any bittorrent tracker or
file-sharing software... It just boggles the mind when you draw
parallels with their love of the right to bare arms, yety no-one would
even think of trying to sue Smith & Wesson when someone gets killed with
one of their guns. So why the heck is no-one batting an eye when these
big 'companies' try to sue the living hell out of a software producer??

Gah, rant over :-)
