Thanks. That's a good idea, or when the user logs out, maybe. It
should, theoretically, be possible to do a "rm /tmp/.esd" in the
context of whoever is logging out. When the problem is fixed, the
command should harmlessly fail.

One potential problem is that the kids sometimes have two gdms going
at once (using New Login under System Tools, if the person
relinguishing control doesn't want to shut everything down). And
because of the aforementioned crowd of  teenagers, I'm usually using
Ubuntu via VNC from a laptop. I'd have to special case somehow.

I still am not sure if the developers think this misfeature of
polpyaudio will be fixed before release. I get the distinct feeling
that I'm one of the very few affected. I'll ask on the
ubuntu-developer list later in the week (where I'm just an awe-struck
lurker).
