Installation report for Acer TravelMate 8100

Ok,
After testing about every combination of modules (and order of
loading), I have come to this conclusion regarding the dvd :

The only way to detect it is to load ide-generic.ko before
ata_piix.ko, but this lead to very slow performance: maximum 1.6 MB/sec
(good luck burning a dvd!!!...) Note also that you need to either load
them in the initrd or built them in the kernel otherwise it wont work.

Also, I saw that the battery state doesnt work (we can't know if its
full or empty). It just throw an error..

I think those problems can only be solve by messing with the kernel.
