You can set firestarter to start automatically by navigating to System >
Preferences > Sessions, clicking on startup programs, and adding
/usr/bin/sudo /usr/sbin/firestarter.

You can make the password prompt go away by typing sudo visudo and
setting the NOPASSWD bit:

# Members of the admin group may gain root privileges
%admin  ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL


Oh by the way, I've just installed Ubuntu 5.10 as my main OS after 6
or 7 years on Redhat. The transition was amazingly pain-free. Ubuntu is
a very solid linux distribution and I'm glad I made the switch.
