Samba printer sharing; making the printer visible toWindows...

This thread is a restart from a while back, partly because I'm still
looking at the problem and partly because a forum poster (maxwellcom)
wondered if I had had any success.

Simply, my laptop running Windows 98SE can't see the printer on my
Ubuntu desktop. It has no trouble with printers served to it by a
Windows 2000 machine at work, and the printer is automatically available
if I run Ubuntu on the laptop.

Printing gurus are very welcome to offer pointers. Maybe there is a
Samba/Cups/networking list that might be a better place to ask?

Well, I've now started to get error messages. Basically it can't
complete its tasks (adding printer information and drivers for Samba to
use afaik) because of user authentification/login problems.

This looks increasingly likely, as the printer shows up a CUPS Printer
(IPP) under Ubuntu; if I look for it as a Windows Printer (SMB) it
doesn't show up. (Strictly speaking a 'ghost' of the printer being
shared off a Windows 2000 machine at work shows up, but *not* a share
from the current Ubuntu machine which does share it under CUPS.)
