pam_unix.so help

There are some pam_unix.so arguments in use on Ubuntu and Debian
systems, (as well as many others if google is any indication) that
don't appear to be documented in the Pam guide. Among them is the
"obscure" option. I have an idea what it does, but I'd like to see
official documentation on the argument as well as the min & max
arguments.
Can anyone tell me where else to look? It seems odd that there are
options that are so commonly used, yet not in the Pam Sysadmin guide.
