USB device missing

Hi all,

I am using warty for the time being.
I do not have any /dev/ttyACMx devices on my system. 
I tried grepping /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog
for newly created usb devices but none is created.
Could you please tell me how to access usb devices
under Ubuntu Warty?
Help will be greatly appreciated
