This shows up because the W32 codecs are not in the main repositories
for copyright/patent reasons There are a number of places you can get
them. You can add the repositories of the PLF (Penguin Liberation
Front) to your repositories list. http://wiki.ubuntu-fr.org/doc/plf
Or you can download the individual package using wget and then dpkg to
install it
Code:
--------------------
wget ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/pool/main/w/w32codecs/w32codecs_20050412-0.0_i386.deb
dpkg -i w32codecs_20050412-0.0_i386.deb
--------------------
This is a side note, but I would also suggest checking out christooss's
HOWTO on installing the mplayer plugin v3.11.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=75817 I find the mplayer
plugin does much better job of dealing with media in firefox. I could
never get totem working properly and mplayer 3.11 worked right away.
