If you just want to test Linux, wouldn't it be easier just to boot up a
Ubuntu Live CD, rather than committing to installing straight away. This
way you will get to see if Ubuntu is the right choice for you and also
you can see if all your hardware will work out of the box in Ubuntu.
I think 1.96GB is enough for server type install. But if you want a full
desktop installation you might need more than that( OpenOffice is around
200MB and think about all the other apps that you might need). Then
again I could be wrong, as I have reached the point where I have
installed all the apps I may ever need :). So someone please confirm the
size of a normal Ubuntu install.
