There's a hidden issue with this, that I discovered -
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -a
insists on your setting a root password. This is OK but means if you ever need to use "rescue" mode you'd better remember your root password, since after setting one, "rescue" will not give you an automatic root prompt any more ;)
