Mysql Server Question

Ok - Im really not understanding how this works.
I installed mysql server and client. I gained access to MySQL Admin 
through the root account but, everything I try to do is denied. The 
owner of almost every mysql file is root but the admin is trying to use 
wadesmart at localhost.

I just want to install the db so I can create db's, run site tests 
against it, and play with tutorials.
