I'm using version 5.0 therefore I don't know if is due to the version.
You could try the free beta available from their website.

Hi,

I have VMWare Version 4.5. VMWare tools install properly but throw a
warning at the very end saying that the script needs to be run outside
the X mode. Otherwise I dont feel that there is a problem with the
pointer as VMWare grabs input as soon as the window is highlighted.
Also I did not have to release or grab control explicitly. But VM Time
synchronization fails or rather does not happen. I have my evolution
configured to my exchange and that complains about the time. My mails
have an incorrect timestamp. :-)

Regards,
Vagmi
