You could do
sudo dpkg --ignore-depends --remove slocate
but I think that will lead to some troubles -- namely, that
every time you do an apt-get upgrade, you'll get an error to
the effect that ubuntu-desktop depends on slocate and that
you should run 'apt-get -f' to fix the problem. So maybe
that's not the right approach. I'm curious what others
suggest.
