a) yes.



b) no. 



Just get yourself setup before you reboot with the new kernel. You will
get the best results if you are using the latest drivers (requires
building them from source with either a running kernel that you are
building for, or the knowledge of how to point at the kernel that you
are building for). Download all your sources and instructions first
before you lose your wireless or make sure that you can run a run a
cable from your ethernet card.
