As an example you can do:

peter at prospero:~$ host archive.ubuntu.com
archive.ubuntu.com has address 82.211.81.182
archive.ubuntu.com has address 82.211.81.151

peter at prospero:~$ whois 82.211.81.151

The last command should tell you more than you wanted to know about the server concerned ;)
