Thanks, I got it figured out.  It had to do with cookies.  I had to add
launchpad to my exceptions list.  That solved the problem.  

I tried to cancel the post, but I guess it didn't work.  I suspect gmane
is just forwarding the post to the mailing list, so I knew it was unlikely
to work.
