mozilla-thunderbird: After a failed drag and drop operation, thunderbird ceases to show mails in window

Here is how to reproduce the problem on my system.

Click "Reply" button. A new mail window pops up.

Drag a file from desktop into the window, but do not place it in the
"Attachments" area that magically appears to the right top area of the
window. Instead, drop the file into the main textarea component. The
file is ignored.

Close the Reply window.

Everything seems to be in the order at this point. However,
after this, switching emails to view in the View area tends to not
display the mail body. (Sometimes, rarely, the email actually gets
displayed in the window, but this is the exception.) Usually the
display area is simply blank or it displays the email that was shown
before the bug was triggered.
