How to change the default text editor ?

Hi,

I am using Dapper, I use subversion and when I went to do a commit, svn
started vi for me to type my comments. In Breezy, it used to start nano
instead, which is what I want to use.
I assume their must be an environnement variable somewhere that controls
what the default text editor is... what must I do exactly to set it to
nano ? What file must I modify, what line to add exactly, and where in
the file ?
