Wireless networking not automatically available at startup

I have a an IBM laptop t30 whose only network connection is through a
wireless pc card. I installed Dapper Flight 6 nd there were no problems at
all during the install so nice work. However, the one issue I do have is
that I have to manually configure wireless networking every time I restart
the computer. My /etc/network/interfaces file contains the following:

  iface eth0 inet dhcp
        wireless-mode managed
        wireless-essid linksys

  auto eth0

When I restart/reboot eth0 is inactive and must be manually activated. Any
advice to make this automatic would be appreciated.
