Re: things a new Linux user needs to know.
I have not seriously tried to make a list -- yet.
I was aware of the concept of hidden folders/files, but they were
system files, not my mail messages. I deleted a whole hidden partition
of Dell diagnostic programs that are accessed by the BIOS. I knew about
it but could find no information on dealing with this when installing
Ubuntu on Dell computers. I decided to use the default installation so
as not to mess anything up.
I would not have needed to find the mail folder if Evolution mail
reader could "export" my emails, or if Thunderbird could import them
from Evolution. I thought there was a chance they were in the same
format, and all I had to do was copy the folder contents from
/.evolution/mail to /.thunderbird/mail, or something like that. It
works fine. As it turns out, I learned something useful.
If you want to run with this, you could start a new thread and let me
know about it.
