Sorry, I forgot to mention that there are too many model numbers around to
know if it will work with linux or not. Frankly, that is up to the
salespeople at the store, and should not be your concern.
It used to be that when I would mention linux in a computer store I would
get a dirty look. Over the past few years, I have seen this start to
change. I have a list of stores I have blacklisted, and there are a number
of items I have retured expressedly because they did wot work with linux,
but overall, the maketplace is getting more and more linux-friendly.
I suggest you ask for a linux-friendly modem made with the mentioned
chipsets. (Be careful: Some will say that a Conexant modem is
linux-friendly...) I think it is unreasonable for the consumer to have to
do much more homework than that to buy a piece of hardware.
