I wasn't going to say any more on this, but since my name was 
mentioned...

Daniel is quite right. What I meant (and thought I said, but 
perhaps didn't) was along the lines of, I need to *know* a few 
things, but in most cases I do not need to *understand* them. 
Subtle difference, with the line between the two varying with the 
topic.

I could give examples, but I'm sure everyone else is bored with 
this discussion. If we are going to continue it, we should change 
the subject line.
