It's aimed to be the best software the free-libre software world can
make.  It is a venture by Canonical aimed at proving that the
free-libre open-source business model of providing services can be
viable (make money.)  In that sense, 

1.  it's good software.

2.  it's free (as in no cost)

3.  it's free-libre (as in software freedom -  the software is not
property and will remain free)

4.  it is very community-oriented and it has a considerable community
behind it, which will in turn make it better and attract more people.
