If you want to be able to add completely integrated blogs/galleries/etc. 
you might look into Invision Power Boards 
(http://www.invisionpower.com). Yes, they're not free, but I can say 
from personal experience all the Invision stuff plays nice together and 
works well overall. The one time I had a crash it was my own darn fault. ^_~
