Using Ubuntu absolves the user of personal responsibility?

WOW ! this thread is crazy . :)

Well, I think the 3 response where fine. Just like it was the case, one
can choose to answer using each of them. That mailing list is meant for
users to help others, isn't it ? Then why not letting every one help the
way he think he can help. If the solution he give doesn't fit or is
dangerous, then I hope someone else will rectify it, and all that
staying *polite* .

In the case of this example, every answers were right and could help the
OP resolving his issue. Why not giving the 3 of them and not arguing
which one should be given ? ... which one is more newbies-oriented or
pedagogic ?
Just give the answer/help the way *you* think you should.

Well, I can't help making a comment here . When saying "we" if you meant
"Ubuntu community", I think Gilles is right. Ubuntu is meant to be as
user-friendly as possible.
Then another community which wants to keep the "Geek legacy" is the
Gentoo one.
Every one has the right of his ideology as long as they don't hurt,
injure, or insult other people in their ideology.
