Can no longer connect to Internet - can use on home network

Something has happened to my Dapper setup... Firefox will no longer
load sites from the Internet.

The setup was ok, but I have recently installed some programs, and I
suspect one of those may have done something to change settings.

As a bit of a Ubuntu/Linux newbie I'm at a loss to know what to check.

The main culprits are probably installing Apache2 or, possibly more
likely, installing an HP PhotoSmart 3310 printer.

Apache2 was a standard aptitude install.

The printer, which is on the network, required me to follow a set of
instructions for HPLIP
(http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/index.html).

Ubuntu is, otherwise, successfully operating on the home network, so I
know, at least, the n/w card is operational. Apache2 is working and
the printer connection is also working successfully.

Any pointers on what to check (and how) in order to get the Internet
access back will be gladly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Nigel
