Any Ubuntu + fluxbox users out there?

I have a couple of questions. Using fluxbox in Dapper, via the ubuntu
universe package. I've found that commands I add to ~/.fluxbox/startup
don't get executed, even though I'm adding them in the right place
following the instructions on the fluxbox site. Also when I add icons
to the menu, only .xpm icons seem to work, but they look terrible,
.png icons don't show up. Do I need to compile my own fluxbox with
.png support?
