This will load/run the edgy netboot installer kernel. assuming it detects your
nic ok, it will just go.

wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/edgy/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/i386/linux
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/edgy/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/i386/initrd.gz
sudo apt-get install kexec-tools
sudo kexec --load linux --initrd=initrd.gz
sudo kexec --exec

If you don't have kexec:
sudo apt-get install kexec-tools

kexec has a -reset-vga switch that you may need to use if you run it inside of
X. I just gdm stop (I figured that out before I saw the -vga switch)

I may add this trick to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/LocalNet
