Bad Ide Controllers?

The only things where I have seen those errors is on dying Hard Disks  
or bad media. Are you sure it's your drives causing the trouble andn  
not the media that's bad?

  * what about data dvds are they fine?
  * can you burn (or get) a data dvd that is proven to work fine on  
another box, if so try that and see if it reports the same errors
