Wierd error after load in GUI

Hi, 

I was running Ubuntu Edgy very smoothly on my laptop until suddenly it has
started to show an error after the laptop loads. As you see the Ubuntu
progress splash scene finish and move towards login, a grey colored dialogue
box shows up asking for network host lookup and after giving it a million
IPs it still doesn't load up the login view. I have tried to shutdown x.org
and change the run levels and try any possible hack I am aware of but
nothing. Any possible suggestions where the heck did this unseen dialogue
box come up from?
